Hello, my name is Dexter Penaranda. I am a Physical Therapist who has been practicing the profession for 20 years but have been in and around health care and health care practitioners my whole life. I am 47 years old and both my parents have been Physical Therapists. My father is still practicing with me (for which I am eternally grateful), however my mother died a little more than 10 years ago (and I still miss her to this day). For whatever it is worth, our combined experience in the health care field would be over 100 years.
So today, I would like to address the current CO-VID 19 situation. Most of us are under voluntary/involuntary quarantine, depending upon where we are. Social isolation has many negative effects, including but not limited to these:
Social isolation is not the only worry in this era of CO-VID 19. Economic factors are also in play that further cause stress. In no other period in the history of the US has the entire economy been hit like it has during these unprecedented times. Every sector of the economy has been affected. From housing to technology companies; agriculture to manufacturing; banking to building, every part of the economy has been hit. As a result, record numbers of individuals of been laid off in only a matter of weeks. According to a recent Fortune article, dated 4/16/2020 has the unemployment rate nearing 20%, as millions of Americans have filed for unemployment in the last few weeks alone. With this loss of family income, millions of families are under pressure to live even day to day.
Small business, which drives the national economy, is dying on the vine as well. Local restaurants and stores of all kinds are crippled as customers are forced to stay at home. Service industries like cleaners, gyms, and even health care is suffering (just this week, I learned that Millennium in Florida, a local health care provider has fired all its Physician Assistants [somewhere to upwards of 300+ people]).
The widespread economic devastation will only continue the longer we are forced to social isolate. Even as governors of the various states decide our future fate (open or not open the economy) the stress and damage to the economy, long and short term, has already been done.
So, in these unprecedented times, with the known negative effects of social isolation combined with the economic destruction imposed on the nation, all of us are feeling the pressure. If you have read my previous blogs, I abhor stress as it can cause a cascading number of negative health issues both long and short term. For this reason, I have recommended CBD products to address this problem.
“Extensive preclinical research—much of it sponsored by the U.S. government—indicates that CBD has potent anti-tumoral, antioxidant, anti-spasmodic, anti-psychotic, anti-convulsive, and neuroprotective properties. CBD directly activates serotonin receptors, causing an anti-anxiety effect.”
